Early College Program Details

Who is eligible for Early College?  

  • High School seniors who wish to complete their remaining high school graduation requirements at SUNY Ulster.
  • High School students interested in completing some coursework at SUNY Ulster.
  • Home-schooled students with SUNY Ulster coursework built into an approved Individual Home Instruction Plan (IHIP) within the school district they reside.  
  • Other students may qualify for our Early College Program and will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

 

How do I apply & enroll? 

 

A complete application consists of the following:  

 

  • Application & Enrollment Plan – completed & signed by student, parent and appropriate school official(s)  
  • Official High School Transcript –OR— Letter from appropriate school official indicating an IHIP is on file with the school district  
  • SUNY Ulster Entering Student Assessment Test Results  
  • Interview with the Director of Admissions 
  • Orientation and course registration 
  • Discussion of payment options

What do I need to know? 

 

  1. It is the responsibility of the student and appropriate school officials to ensure that high school graduation, acceptable/passing grade requirements, and requirements of the school district are being met through specifically designated SUNY Ulster coursework. 

 

  1. All candidates must complete SUNY Ulster’s Entering Student Assessment Exam, which will be used as an advisement tool to gauge academic readiness for SUNY Ulster coursework. Applicants who do not place into college-level work may have the opportunity to complete developmental coursework provided the appropriate courses are scheduled to be offered.

  2. Students enrolled in ENG 102 or ENG 172 must also take a 1-credit Information Literacy course (LIB 111).

  3. Students enrolled in our Early College Program must pay full tuition rates and fees, as well as pay for the cost of books. (These courses are not considered Collegian courses. Collegian courses are SUNY Ulster courses offered and taken within the student’s high school.)

  4. Students enrolled in the Early College Program are not eligible for financial aid.

  5. Students in our Early College Program will be issued a SUNY Ulster ID and Parking Permit. Students in this program will have access to ALL student resources and are required to use the my.sunyulster.edu portal and email communication. 

 

  1. The Family Educational Rights Act (FERPA) was designated to protect the privacy of educational records and afford students certain rights concerning their educational records. High school students in the Early College Program can elect to waive these rights and authorize a parent/guardian full access to academic records privacy protections by signing a SUNY Ulster FERPA Release Form.
