Health Services

Health Services at SUNY Ulster provides health and support services to members of the college community and is also responsible for making sure students observe all state and college-mandated health requirements.

College Health Services are available to the college community year round, excluding holidays, nights, and weekends.

First aid treatment, medical emergency care, blood pressure checks, health information, treatment referrals and onsite clinics are among the services offered. A nurse is on duty Monday through Friday, from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.

Immunization Requirements

Immunization requirements imposed by New York State Public Health Law 2165 in 1990, requires all students born on or after January 1, 1957, to produce, at registration, proof of immunization against measles, mumps and rubella (MMR). This requirement pertains to all full-time and part-time students taking 6 or more credits. Those born before January 1, 1957, are exempt from this requirement. Students who have no record of immunizations should contact College Health Services.  Proof of Immunization Form 

In July 2003, Governor Pataki signed New York State Public Health Law 2167 for meningitis requirements requiring institutions, including colleges and universities, to distribute information about meningococcal disease and vaccination to all students. Even though the Meningitis vaccine is not mandated at this time, colleges are required to maintain a reply form from the students stating that they have read the information and either received the vaccine or declined.

Medication Abortion Information & Referrals

If a student becomes pregnant, we provide full options counseling and referrals at Health Services.

On May 2, 2023, legislation was signed in New York State (A1295-C/S1213-B) that requires all public colleges and universities in the SUNY and CUNY systems offer access to medication abortion. The law requires that every SUNY and CUNY campus provide access to abortion medication to their student body either by employing or contracting with authorized individuals who may prescribe abortion prescription drugs, or by providing students with information and referrals to providers authorized to prescribe abortion medication.

SUNY Ulster does not provide medication or procedural termination of pregnancy care on-campus at this time. Please see the below list of community agencies and/or providers authorized to prescribe abortion medication. For students who choose to terminate a pregnancy or desire to continue a pregnancy, we offer referrals at local clinics. Health Services will continue to provide any student interested in the connection to services.
