Courses in both clean technology and energy efficiency leading to certificates and certifications are offered. BPI Building Analyst Professional

The BPI Building Analyst Professional (BA-P) is an advanced certification for home performance professionals. A BA-P is a certified Building Analyst Technician who also conducts energy modeling, building analysis, and data evaluation in order to provide a comprehensive report with a list of prioritized home performance recommendations. The BA-P certification is earned by passing an online written exam. An active Building Analyst Technician (BA-T) certification is required for BA-Ps. Students seeking certification should also register for DCB 2423.

BPI Building Analyst Professional Exam

This exam is for those who wish to become BPI BA-P certified. Candidates must successfully challenge an online exam to become Building Analyst Professional (BA-P) certified. There is no field exam.

BPI Building Analyst Technician

This course prepares one to take the BPI Building Analyst Technician (BA-T) certification exam. The BA-T is an early-career credential for workers in the home performance industry. This certification gives a great entrance to the industry while providing a clear path for professional growth. A BA-T's work includes data collection and diagnostic testing for a whole-home assessments. The BA-T's skills and knowledge include: buildings & their systems, testing & data collection, and industry standards. Students should also register for the certification exam (DCB 2422).

NOTE: Students will be required to hold the BPI Building Science Principles Certificate before taking the BPI BA-T Certification Exam. Students will be prepped in this class to take the BPI BSP Certificate Exam.

BPI Building Analyst Technician - Certificate Exam

BPI Building Analyst Tech Field exam: Hands-on exam with oral questions. Please note that the exam contains gated items that must be completed successfully to pass the exam, regardless of any other exam score. Candidate prepared combustible gas and CO measurement instruments for use according to ANSI/BPI‐1200

  • Candidate sampled indoor ambient CO levels
  • Candidate sampled indoor ambient air for combustible gas levels on one floor of the house
  • Candidate monitored ambient CO levels in the CAZ during all combustion safety testing and stated results
  • Candidate set combustion appliances to pilot or standby to ensure they do not fire during the blower door test

Pre-requisite: BPI’s Building Science Principles Certificate of Knowledge (students enrolling in the BA-T class DCB 2420 will have the opportunity to test for this certificate)

Time limit: 4 hours. Passing score: 70% or higher

BPI Heating Professional Written Exam

All written exams are by appointment and subject to a $200 non-refundable fee. After registering for any of the BPI Written Exams, you will be contacted via email to arrange an exam date. Exams are held remotely via Zoom. SUNY Ulster will follow guidelines set by BPI.

Electric Vehicle Fundamentals

EV Fundamentals is designed for entry-level positions in the areas of automotive assembly and production for electric vehicles. This credential can provide the necessary skills for individuals with no background in vehicle production and assembly or for individuals who have experience in this area but need to tailor their knowledge to the Electric Vehicle market.

Photovoltaic (PV) Systems

Learn the basics of how to select and design an appropriate solar array for a property, and how to install it safely. Students will learn design techniques for both grid-tie and off-grid systems, and participate in hands-on projects. Safety procedures and electrical code are addressed for various types of arrays.
